International Pipe Smoking Day has been observed annually on February 20th since 2008. This date has been included in the calendar thanks to the initiative of The Vancouver Pipe Club. There are around IO million pipe-smokers in the USA and 1.5 million in the UK. Many pipe clubs organize meetings and annual celebrations to celebrate this special day for pipe smokers and hobbyists. The pipe-smoking communities appeal to spend some time that day on the noble art of pipe-smoking and admiration for the beauty enchanted in the root briar. At numerous meetings, they pass on tradition, history and old habits to the younger generations. All the lovers of this day argue that smoking a pipe is more than just a hobby. It’s an art that richly rewards those who practice it. Here the words of Albert Einstein are asking to be quoted: “Smoking a pipe provides a calm and objective judgment of human affairs”.
